Weibersbrunn (dpa / lby) - The driver of a semitrailer was seriously injured in an accident on Autobahn 3 in the Aschaffenburg district. Because of the vehicle tanks damaged by the accident near Rohrbrunn, several hundred liters of diesel also ran into the ground, the police said.
The truck driver lost control of his truck late Friday evening, possibly due to a medical emergency. The truck then first broke through a wildlife fence and then ran over several trees over a distance of around 100 meters until it came to a standstill. The tank of the semitrailer ripped open. The seriously injured driver was able to get out of his vehicle before the rescue workers arrived and was then taken to a clinic by helicopter.
Firefighters then pumped out the remaining fuel in the damaged tank. The right-hand lane is expected to remain closed on Saturday to recover the semi-trailer truck and remove the contaminated soil.
