Munich (dpa / lby) - Should Munich keep the option of a new subway route open - but take the risk of having to borrow many billions of euros? Or should the "U9 relief clip" project, which is intended to make the state capital's subway network fit for the future, be discontinued and a three-digit million amount that has already been invested be sunk? The members of the city council are faced with this difficult decision on Wednesday (9:00 a.m.).
The city council factions of the Greens as well as the SPD and CSU have already announced that they want to vote for the U9. This would result in a majority. On the other hand, there is an urgent warning from the city treasury: "We recommend getting out of the reprimand measure (...)," says the statement for the general assembly. Even if an unexpected amount of funding were to flow, the amount still to be raised by the city "cannot be financed in view of the already sharply increasing debt of the state capital Munich".
