Bavaria: Unknown blow up ATM: 13th case this year

Wolfertschwandern (dpa/lby) - Unknowns blew up an ATM in Wolfertschwandern in the Lower Allgäu. It is the 13th incident of this kind in Bavaria this year. After the crime on Wednesday night, they fled in a dark car in the direction of the nearby motorway, the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (BLKA) in Munich said.

According to the investigators, the machine was installed in the room of a bank branch, which was massively destroyed in the explosion. According to a BLKA spokesman, the perpetrators were also able to steal money - but he did not want to comment on the amount. Investigators are now looking for eyewitnesses.

According to the authorities, criminals have already blown up 13 devices in Bavaria this year. In the whole of 2021 there were 17 cases. "It's already increasing," a spokesman commented on the recent incident. In a recently presented balance sheet, the investigators attributed a large part of the current cases to Dutch groups. The perpetrators became more professional and used solid explosives more and more often. The loot averaged six figures.
