Bavaria: unrest in the SPD: allegations against Secretary General Tasdelen

Munich (dpa / lby) - Unrest in the Bavarian SPD: Because he is said to have behaved inappropriately towards young women, Secretary General Arif Tasdelen is unwanted by his own party offspring. "We decided in September not to invite Arif Tasdelen anymore. The reason was behavior towards young women that was unacceptable to us - some comrades had therefore contacted us," said Juso country chief Kilian Maier on Thursday of the German Press Agency. The "Süddeutsche Zeitung" reported first.

All sides emphasize that it is not a matter of criminally relevant misconduct on the part of Tasdelen. In one case, Tasdelen is said to have insistently asked for the cell phone number of a young SPD candidate.

Tasdelen informed the Bavarian SPD that there had been a large number of internal discussions since the allegations became known. To his knowledge, on two occasions his communication was found to be inappropriate. In one of the cases, he explained that the question about the cell phone number of a young state parliament candidate had only a professional background. Other women present would have perceived this differently than the person concerned. But he drew the conclusion for himself to formulate more carefully. That's why he will also take part in a so-called awareness training in January. He takes the situation very seriously and of course wants to avoid such situations in the future.

The Bavarian SPD said they found out about the decision by the Jusos at the end of September and then held several talks with Tasdelen and the Jusos, among others. At the suggestion of SPD state leader Florian von Brunn, the chairwoman of the control commission of the Bavarian SPD, Carmen König-Rothemund, was immediately asked for support with a neutral clarification. "We take such issues very seriously," the statement said.
