Bavaria: woman stabbed - court wants to announce verdict

Nuremberg (dpa/lby) - In the trial of the fatal stabbing of a woman in Fürth, the regional court in Nuremberg wants to announce a verdict at 1 p.m. today. A 45-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter. Prosecutors accuse the man of attacking the woman with a knife in the parking lot in front of her house last December. She later died in hospital.

According to a court spokeswoman, the prosecution had asked for a prison sentence of 14 years and 3 months and preventive detention in their plea. The defense pleaded for acquittal.

Preventive detention is imposed with the aim of reforming dangerous offenders and protecting the public from them. In principle, preventive detention is not limited in time. A court regularly examines whether it continues.

According to the indictment, the German had previously attacked and injured the woman in November 2021 when she was sitting next to him in the passenger seat of the car. The man had just been released from prison a few months earlier, where he had served a several-year sentence for rape and assault.
