Bavaria: Wood burning splits the mind

Strasbourg/Munich (dpa/lby) - A decision by the EU Parliament on burning wood is splitting opinions - the CSU is also divided. MEPs decided on Wednesday to continue to classify wood burning as sustainable energy, but to cap the permitted amount at average consumption for the years 2017 to 2022 and limit state subsidies. Agriculture Minister Michaela Kaniber (CSU) criticized this as equally bad for climate protection and security of supply. The German Environmental Aid (DUH) criticized the decision for the opposite reason - the association calls for an even more far-reaching restriction. The CSU European politician Angelika Niebler, on the other hand, welcomed the vote.
