Augsburg (dpa / lby) - The Augsburg Panthers from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) will have to do without striker Marco Sternheimer in the future. The 23-year-old wants to start a teaching degree and only continue his ice hockey career at a lower level.
"The decision to turn my back on Augsburg ice hockey has matured in me over the last few months, but of course it was anything but easy for me. However, the course of study that I am about to start can no longer be reconciled with professional ice hockey." , Sternheimer explained on Wednesday.
From the running school to the U20, Sternheimer went through all the youngsters at Augsburg and then made the leap to the professional level. Born in Augsburg, he played 167 DEL games. He scored eight goals and provided 18 assists. Sternheimer scored one goal in six senior internationals.
