Duah, duah - again and again duah! Troubled 1. FC Nürnberg and its hapless striker keep failing against Arminia Bielefeld - powerhouse Tempelmann scores late. The relief at the "club" and its coach is huge.
Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - "Club" trainer Robert Klauß freed himself from all the pressure with a scream and grabbed his players with relief. At the last minute, Lino Tempelmann let 1. FC Nürnberg celebrate in front of 26,641 spectators in the duel of the Bundesliga record climbers against Arminia Bielefeld. After a free kick by Mats Möller Daehli, the energetic midfielder headed the Franconian side in the 90th minute to the well-deserved 1-0 (0-0).
"I'm surprised myself, I've never been known for my strength in the air. But I'm happy that my head always works out," said the happy Tempelmann.
After the sobering 2:4 against Eintracht Braunschweig a week ago, Nuremberg showed a reaction and improved to tenth place in the table with their third win of the season. The offensively harmless Arminia suffered their first defeat under their new coach Daniel Scherning and is still 15th.
"We played a very good game from the first to the 90th minute. When you then reward yourself like that in the 90th minute, it's a wonderful feeling," said Klauss. "The next few weeks will show what it can do in the end. You can't assume from a game that you'll always call it up, but that's the goal."
It seemed bewitched for 1. FC Nuremberg. Either the strong Bielefeld goalkeeper Martin Fraisl was the end of the line - or the referee didn't play along. In the 54th minute, the video referee denied a goal from the hapless Kwadwo Duah because the assist provider Felix Lohkemper was offside.
Duah, duah - again and again duah! In their dominant early phase, Nürnberg were always looking for the Swiss striker. But Duah failed with his head and foot. A backwards header from Jens Castrop (44') steered goalkeeper Fraisl just past the post.
The Bielefeld team had their big chance right from the start. Christian Mathenia (3rd) managed to straddle a perfectly timed pass down to the former Nuremberg player Robin Hack. There was not much more than a header by Masaya Okugawa (73rd).
Instead, the "club" continued to struggle. Guilherme Ramos made a fatal loss of possession against Sadik Fofana. Möller Daehli sent Lohkemper, who was allowed to start again for Nuremberg after 398 days. Duah sunk his cross pass (52.) - but the video evidence revealed that Lohkemper was offside.
Another dropout by Ramos put Duah (69th) back in a promising shooting position, but the 25-year-old missed the next time. Shortly before the final whistle, Tempelmann scored powerfully for the liberating Nuremberg home win.
