Munich (dpa/lby) - The internationally renowned referee Danny Makkelie will officiate the top game in Champions League Group C between FC Bayern and FC Barcelona on Tuesday evening (9 p.m.) in Munich. The European Football Union (UEFA) announced the classification of the 39-year-old Dutchman on Sunday. Makkelie has been a FIFA referee for eleven years.
He is no stranger to Bayern: he has officiated three top-flight games for Bayern so far. All three group games ended with an away win for the German record champions. In 2017, Bayern won 2-1 at Celtic Glasgow. In 2019 there was a 3: 2 at Olympiacos Piraeus. And in autumn 2020, the Munich team, as the defending champions at the time, clearly won 6: 2 at Red Bull Salzburg.
