Fürth (dpa / lby) - SpVgg Greuther Fürth once again has to do without central defender Gideon Jung at the start of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga. As the Franconians announced on Tuesday, the 27-year-old underwent an "arthroscopic operation" on his knee and is "long-term".
"Unfortunately, due to his ongoing problems, another intervention had to be made," said managing director Rachid Azzouzi. "We wish Gidi a speedy recovery and will continue to support him as best we can." Jung had already missed almost the entire past Bundesliga season due to a meniscus injury.
The game association starts the new season on July 16 with a home game against Holstein Kiel. Before that, there are still two friendlies to be played this Wednesday against FC Ingolstadt, who have been relegated to the second division, and on Saturday against the Swiss club BSC Youngs Boys Bern.
