Bayern: Fürther restart with Zorniger: Basement duel as the first test

The SpVgg Greuther Fürth makes the restart. Alexander Zorniger should get the bottom of the table back on track as the new coach. The first task has it all.

Fürth (dpa / lby) - Alexander Zorniger will start working as a coach at SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Monday (10.30 a.m.). The 55-year-old should save the Franks from falling into the 3rd football league. Due to the 1: 3 at the weekend in Heidenheim, the Fürth slipped to the last place in the table. In four days of preparation, Zorniger wants to prepare his team for the basement duel on Friday against the penultimate Arminia Bielefeld. "I'm looking forward to getting to know the team and then working together on the pitch," said Zorniger.

Zorniger last worked for Apollon Limassol in Cyprus and became a master there. In Germany he is known from a time at RB Leipzig. With the Saxons he rose from the regional league to the 2nd Bundesliga. He also worked briefly for VfB Stuttgart in 2015.

During the game in Heidenheim, Zorniger was still in the stands. He wants the team to "familiarize themselves with the high-intensity style of play that I stand for" as quickly as possible.
