Bayern: Munich "Löwen" commit central defender Verlaat

Munich (dpa / lby) - Third division football club TSV 1860 Munich has committed central defender Jesper Verlaat. The 25-year-old, son of ex-Bundesliga professional Frank Verlaat, comes to the "Löwen" from league rivals SV Waldhof Mannheim. The Munich company did not provide any information about the contract period in their announcement on Tuesday.

"Together with our trainer Michael Köllner, we managed to convince Jesper of our ambitious concept and, after intensive and extensive negotiations, we were also able to reach an agreement in the economic area," said Managing Director Günther Gorenzel. Not only would the entire team benefit from Verlaat, but the defensive talents in particular would benefit in their further development.

Verlaat is considered the player of choice for coach Köllner. In his youth he played both in Austria and in Portugal. In the older junior years U17 and U19 he was trained at SV Werder Bremen. There he also ran for the second team.

"It's an honor to be a lion now! I'll do everything I can to meet the expectations of the many lion fans and the demands I have on myself," said the defender.
