Bayern: Söder calls on people to be confident and optimistic

Munich (dpa / lby) - Despite the current crises and the war in Ukraine, Prime Minister Markus Söder has called on the people of Bavaria to be courageous and optimistic about the future. "Let's stick together and stay confident," said the CSU leader in his New Year's speech, which will be broadcast on Bavarian television on January 1st. Due to its economic power, Bavaria is better positioned to deal with the current challenges than most regions in the world. "Of course Bayern are not perfect, but they are very strong."

After Bavaria "survived the Corona crisis quite well" and regained a new zest for life, Russia's war against Ukraine again presented an "epochal challenge for all of us," said Söder. Bavaria has taken in many people from the Ukraine and shown heart, but at the same time there are concerns here too: "The economic and social consequences of the war are affecting large parts of our society. Many people are rightly concerned about warm apartments, affordable food and their personal Future."

In his speech, Söder described climate change and digitization as the "great long-term challenges of our time". At the same time, he warned of serious dangers to democracy with a view to the most recent raids on the so-called Reich citizens.
