Bayern: TSV 1860 separates from coach Köllner

After the 1: 2 against Dynamo Dresden Michael Köllner as coach of the Munich “Löwen” is over. A win from seven games is not enough. The sports director and an ex-player take over.

Munich (dpa / lby) - Michael Köllner's time as coach of TSV 1860 Munich is over after a little more than three years. The third division soccer team parted ways the day after the 2-1 draw against Dynamo Dresden from the 53-year-old, who could only celebrate one win in the past seven games with the "Lions". Köllner took over the office in November 2019, now he has to make room for managing director Günther Gorenzel and the former "Löwen" player Stefan Reisinger. According to the announcement on Tuesday, the duo will take over the coaching position on an interim basis. Reisinger last worked for KFC Uerdingen 05.

"Not only do we see our goals for the season in acute danger and we are therefore forced to act," said Gorenzel. "Michael Köllner took on the task of head coach during a difficult phase for TSV 1860 Munich, quickly became a popular figure, made a significant contribution to calming the environment and left deep marks." However, the "persistent negative sporting trend" mentioned in the message "does not correspond to the demands and expectations of TSV 1860 Munich", especially not with regard to the potential.

The desired rise is still possible given the only three points behind the relegation place. But after the many setbacks in the last few games, the "lions" have to stabilize first. A direct promotion rank is seven points away.

Gorenzel has the required football coaching license and is initially working in a dual role. Reisinger has already assumed responsibility in his previous coaching positions in difficult times, the club emphasized in its statement. He should now do the same with the "Lions".

"We have intensively analyzed and discussed the overall development. Despite many discussions and joint work on problem areas, the desired development of the team has not materialized and patterns that were already recognizable before the two-month winter break come to light again and again," said Gorenzel. The "Lions" are currently in sixth place. They have finished fourth in each of the past two seasons.

Gorenzel is to assume the dual function of managing director and coach until "a permanent solution for the head coach position can be presented during the current season based on the economic possibilities".

The Munich team suffered another setback in the fight for promotion on Monday evening. They lost to Dresden after an early goal from Albion Vrenezi (5th minute). Stefan Kutschke (56') and Dennis Borkowski (76') turned the game around after the break in front of 15,000 spectators in the Grünwalder Stadium. With the away games at promoted Oldenburg and Meppen at the bottom, the "Lions" have tasks ahead of them in which they could do something for self-confidence.
