Because of unfulfilled music request: Turkish musician dies after attack after concert

Onur Şener, known from the Turkish The Voice offshoot, performs in a bar in Ankara. He is said to have turned down a music request because he did not know the song. A massive argument ensued, during which, according to Turkish media, he was injured in the neck with a glass bottle and died.

A Turkish musician died in Ankara as a result of an attack after his performance. Onur Şener did not fulfill a music request from the audience and was later attacked, the broadcaster CNN Türk reported. According to the state news agency Anadolu, five suspects were brought before the magistrate.

According to CNN Türk, the 45-year-old musician was on stage in front of guests at a bar in Çankaya district on October 2 when he was asked to play a song. However, he was unable to fulfill the music request because he did not know the song himself. A dispute then broke out between the parties, which led to a fight. The fight is said to have been separated by staff and guests. But when the musician wanted to leave the venue, he was said to have been attacked again by the group, according to "Hürriyet Daily News". In the course of this, the musician was injured by a glass bottle in the neck. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Artists, politicians and journalists, among others, expressed indignation about the incident on social media. Among them the rock musician Haluk Levent, who posted a performance video of Onur Şener on Twitter and commemorated him. He expressed his incomprehension that a wish song could produce such violence. Some voices on the internet connected this with criticism of the government and accused it, among other things, of stirring up hostility among the population.

Family man Onur Şener took part in The Voice Turkish version "O Ses Türkiye" in 2013. There he interpreted the Queen song "Show must go on" with the singer Hadise - with this performance he became known.
