"Best Paid Entertainers 2022": Surprising result in "Forbes" ranking

The US business magazine "Forbes" has just published the list of the "highest paid entertainers". Anyone who expected a name like Brad Pitt or Taylor Swift to be in first place will be surprised. Instead, a 72-year-old musician achieved the highest earnings in 2022.

Genesis are the highest-paid entertainers of 2022. The business magazine "Forbes" came to this quite surprising result in its annual list. The veteran band around singer Phil Collins turned over 230 million US dollars last year. The proceeds came from selling much of their music to Concord Music Group for $300 million.

The figures in the "Forbes" list are earnings before taxes, minus operating expenses and fees of managers and lawyers. The magazine uses data from Nielsen BookScan, Luminate, Pollstar, IMDBPro and Variety Insight for the calculation, as well as interviews with agents and industry insiders.

Second place was not necessarily to be expected either. Sting charged him $210 million. The former The Police singer also sold his music rights, which Universal Music Group also paid $ 300 million for. Third place goes to Tyler Perry. The actor and producer, who is less well-known in Germany, had an estimated turnover of 175 million dollars in 2022.

Next up are the makers of long-lived animated comedy series. "South Park" inventors Trey Parker and Matt Stone are clearly ahead of "Simpsons" bosses James L. Brooks and Matt Groening with $160 million ($105 million).

Brad Pitt finds himself in sixth place with 100 million. The lion's share of this did not come from his fees for the films "Babylon" or "Bullet Train", but from the sale of the majority stake in his production company Plan B.

The Rolling Stones secure seventh place. The income of 98 million dollars came mainly from the ticket sales of their European tour. Successful director James Cameron turned over 95 million dollars thanks to "Avatar: The Way of Water".

Taylor Swift, ninth, is the first and only woman in Forbes' top ten. Her $92 million came from record sales, streams and ticket sales for her 2023 tour.

Bad Bunny completes the list with $88 million. The reggaeton singer was also the most streamed artist in the world in 2022. But apparently this is currently generating significantly less revenue than selling rights and gigantic tours.
