Cain Velasquez, a former UFC champion, is charged with shooting a man in California Monday.
Velasquez is currently being held in Santa Clara County's main jail, on a charge for attempted murder. San Jose police stated Tuesday.
Police said that they are still investigating the motives and circumstances of the incident.
Officers responded to a shooting late Monday night and found a man who was at least once shot. Velasquez was taken to hospital with injuries not life-threatening and Velasquez arrested.
It is not clear if Velasquez is represented by an attorney.
Velasquez is a mixed martial artist and wrestler who has been crowned UFC heavyweight champion twice.
