Casa Real Felipe VI completes with the OECD in Paris the plenary session of the great international organizations

Felipe VI today visits the headquarters of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris. The King, who will pronounce a few words at the international organization, sets foot on this institution for the first time as Head of State, with which he adds a new representation of the highest Spanish authority in international organizations and completes a kind of tour that in these nine years of reign has led him to be present in the most important institutions.

In September 2014, three months after his Proclamation, the King spoke before the United Nations General Assembly. Since then, Don Felipe has met on several occasions with his general secretaries, first Ban ki Moon and then Antonio Guterres, to whom he will present the Carlos V European Award on May 9 at the Yuste Monastery.

Felipe VI has also been to various European institutions on numerous occasions. The King, who often recalls Spain's European vocation in his speeches, visited the European Parliament in April 2015, in October of that year he spoke at the plenary session of the Council, in Strasbourg, and in April 2017 he was in the Parliamentary Assembly of Council. In addition, Don Felipe has been present on three occasions at the delivery of the Charlemagne award, the oldest award given in the European Union and of which his father, King Don Juan Carlos, is one of the four Spaniards who received it. They have received.

In the context of the Transatlantic Alliance, Felipe VI visited the NATO Headquarters in Brussels in 2018 and last year he presided over the commemorative events of the Organization's 40th anniversary. The King also opened the doors of the Royal Palace to organize the welcome dinner for the leaders who attended the Summit last May.

And Don Felipe also takes care of the presence of the highest State institution in Latin America and Africa. Thus, since he is King he has attended all the Ibero-American Summits. He has been to Mexico, Colombia, Guatemala, Andorra and on April 23 he will attend the one held in the Dominican Republic. The King also attends the inaugurations of the presidents of South America. In January 2015, coinciding with his birthday, he was at the African Union Summit.

At the economic level, Don Felipe has also had a presence in important organizations. Last year he visited the European Central Bank on a state trip to Germany. The King also held a meeting with the Spaniards who work in the institution. A month later, in November, he traveled to Washington to visit the International Monetary Fund.

So today, in Paris, add a new presence in an organization. The OECD coordinates economic and social policies through its partners. 38 countries are represented in the organization, its rules have an impact on the functioning of a hundred States and its members represent around 80% of global trade and investment. Spain entered the OECD in 1961 and Don Felipe visited it as Prince of Asturias in 2007. At that time he was already involved in the Organization.

Today, the OECD is holding a special session of its Council, where the King will deliver a speech in English. Next, Felipe VI, accompanied by Vice President Nadia Calviño, will hold a working lunch in which there will be a large delegation of African ambassadors, to then meet with around 80 Spaniards who work in the OECD.

In the afternoon, the Monarch will become the first Head of State to visit the Organization's Development Center, where workers will explain that the center facilitates dialogue on public policies and provides tools for policy makers to find solutions that stimulate growth and improve living conditions in the population of countries with emerging and developing economies.
