Comeback on RTL: Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg becomes moderator

More than eleven years have passed since Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg resigned from his political office. Since then he has not been idle. He was involved as a management consultant, lobbyist and most recently again in the CSU. Now he has a new task.

Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg returns to the German public in a prominent position. However, politics is left out. Rather, the former defense minister works with RTL on high-end documentaries for the RTL streaming service.

Zu Guttenberg will lead through two 90-minute docutainment formats as moderator and interviewer, the broadcaster said. The shows are scheduled to air later this year. Nothing concrete is known about the content. RTL will inform you about this in good time before the start of the program, it is said.

Zu Guttenberg was once considered a beacon of hope for the CSU. He was Federal Economics Minister (2009), then Defense Minister (2009-2011) and at the time one of the most popular politicians in the country. In 2011, however, the 50-year-old got caught up in a plagiarism scandal.

For example, zu Guttenberg copied most of his doctoral thesis from other authors and did not mark this. The University of Bayreuth then withdrew his doctorate in February 2011. A few days later he resigned from all political offices.

In the meantime, zu Guttenberg and his family moved to the USA. Professionally, he was involved as a lobbyist and management consultant.

Again and again there was speculation about a possible political comeback of the ex-minister. But even if the then Bavarian Prime Minister Horst Seehofer appointed him to the competence team for his election campaign in 2015 - zu Guttenberg has not tried to take on a political office again to date. Now he has other things to do.
