Philippe Marini (current mayor Les Republicains) and former senator were taken into police custody on Tuesday, May 31, according to a source who was familiar with the matter. He was being investigated for corruption and favoritism. This case involves the awarding of a waste treatment contract.

In a judicial probe opened for "favoritism", corruption, illegal taking of interest and "unlawful agreement", the former chairman of Senate Finance Committee is listened to by the Paris research section gendarmes.

The boss of Paprec, which won a contract to build a waste sorting centre in 2017, is one of five people currently in police custody. According to the financial prosecution, the judicial information was "aimed at the Paprec group's practices".

During the same investigation, searches were made in May 2021 at Philippe Marini's home and at the Agglomeration region of Compiegne. Oise, the Compiegne town hall, has not yet responded.
