For Jeremy Renner, the new year begins with a serious accident: the US actor, who has been nominated twice for an Oscar, is seriously injured while clearing snow, has to be flown to the hospital and is in critical condition.

Jeremy Renner is in the hospital after an accident. The actor's condition is "critical but stable," the US industry portal "Deadline" quoted a spokesman for the Hollywood star as saying. Renner suffered the injuries while snow plowing as a result of "a weather-related accident". According to "Deadline", Renner was flown to the hospital on Sunday. His spokesman said his family is with him now and he is being "excellently taken care of".

It is not known where the accident took place. According to US media reports, the actor has a home in the Reno area, said to be a ranch above Lake Tahoe. There is said to have been a heavy snowstorm in the region on New Year's Eve.

Renner posted several clips of himself behind the wheel of a snow plow on Instagram and captioned one of them: "Almost done with the sled hill for the kids". On display is a snow clearing vehicle in XXL format, which one would expect to see on ski slopes rather than at home.

Jeremy Renner has been nominated twice for an Oscar, for his roles in The Hurt Locker (2008) and The Town (2010). Renner is also the star of the Paramount series Mayor of Kingstown, Disney's Marvel series Hawkeye, and the Avengers and Captain America films. Renner made his debut in the successful Marvel universe, which has meanwhile spread over numerous cinema films, in 2011 in "Thor". He was also seen in the "Mission Impossible" franchise.
