Altens Recycling Centre in the south of the city raised the alarm at 16:30 on Friday. The fire was extinguished at 22:00.

The fire erupted again at midnight, and teams continued to battle it throughout the night.

The efforts to put out the fire have caused water shortages in the Cove Bay region.

To support the Aberdeen teams involved in the incident, appliances were dispatched to Aboyne and Alford, Banchory. Dundee. Montrose.

Scottish Water also advised residents of Cove Bay that low pressure and discolored water could cause disruptions to their supply.

Although it isn't immediately clear if anyone was injured, firefighters warned residents about the dangers of smoke in the area on Saturday morning.

It stated: "SFRS crews continue managing a significant fire at a Altens industrial estate recycling centre, Aberdeen.

"Please be aware that there is a lot of smoke when you visit the estate."
