The 14-year-old from Gottenheim in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district had been missing since July 21. Her body was found on Friday almost 300 kilometers from her home town in a lake in the Wetteraukreis in Hesse. The investigators initially did not confirm media reports that the girl was the victim of a violent crime.

In the home of the student and at the distant place of discovery in Hesse, sadness and horror prevail. "The worst that can happen in such a case has happened. The whole of Gottenheim is in shock," said Mayor Christian Riesterer.
The girl was found dead in a small lake in a nature reserve in the Wetterau north of Frankfurt am Main. According to dpa information, it is the Teufelsee, a popular destination. A forensic medical examination had shown that the body found in the lake belonged to the student from Gottenheim.
The teenager left her parents' house around 6 p.m. on July 21 and has been missing ever since. A major police search, including with dogs and police helicopters, yielded no results. On Saturday, the police then announced the death of the 14-year-old. A group of investigators from the Freiburg Kripo is working on the case.
