Halloween is only a few weeks away but Bank of America provided a Friday scare for many customers.

Twitter trended the financial giant on Friday, as users complained that the Bank of America BAC, +1.48% application was down on Friday -- the first of each month when rent, utilities, and other bills are due.

"Anyone else experiencing issues with the Bank of America app?" The irony of this s---messing up the morning of the first," tweeted one user and shared the frustrations of other Bank of America customers who cannot access their accounts via the app.

Another said, "Trust Bank of America to get down on my payday."

Many customers couldn't log in to their Bank America accounts via the website. Bank of America's website stated that "some customers may not be able to access Online Banking at the moment." Your accounts are safe. We are working hard to make our website available to all customers again as soon as possible.

Downdector.com tracks technological issues and outages of different services in real-time. Around 10 a.m., Downdector.com noticed a spike of Bank of America complaints. ET Friday. Up to 12,000 reports had already been filed as of Friday at 11:15 AM ET. After noon ET, however, complaints slowed down to a trickle.

MarketWatch received an email confirmation from Bank of America confirming that the bank was aware of clients experiencing slowness when trying to access their account information. However, service was "100% restored by 2 p.m. ET on Friday. The bank stated that client's personal and account information were safe and secure.
