Epidemic. Covid-19: France's 150,000 dead mark

This Friday, France crossed the threshold of 150,000 deaths due to Covid-19. The epidemic has been raging in France since the beginning 2020 against the backdrop of an increase in reinfections according to Public Health France figures.

The death toll from the disease has surpassed 150,000 with 74 people dying in hospitals within 24 hours. Two years after the outbreak in France, the 140,000 mark was reached on March 11.

France is currently in the seventh wave of an epidemic that began at the end May and was pushed by Omicron subvariants. This is evident in the sharp rise in contamination. The virus's spread on the territory continues to increase, and the date for the epidemic peak is unknown.

The Institut Pasteur has released the most recent projections. They expect that hospitalizations related to Covid will increase further in the coming days. These researchers anticipate around 1,700 daily hospital admissions as of July 18. This compares to approximately a thousand today.

Francois Braun, the new Minister of Health, spoke about the seventh wave in Covid, which occurred at the first vacation departures. However, wearing a mask is not mandatory, but it's recommended. He insisted that he asked the French to wear a mask for the day of great vacation departure.

All restrictions on health were lifted in spring and the executive doesn't want to put in place any binding measures at this point.
