Farewell to an institution: Ralph Caspers leaves "Wissen macht Ah!"

What did Ralph Caspers tell us about "Knowledge Makes Ah!" didn't you already teach everything? But after more than 20 years of working for our everyday knowledge, the 50-year-old is now at the end of the children's program. However, a successor is already in the starting blocks.

After more than 20 years, TV presenter Ralph Caspers is giving the knowledge program "Wissen macht Ah!" away. The 50-year-old takes care of "new and other projects," said West German Broadcasting (WDR).

The result: In the new episodes from September, Caspers will no longer be part of the moderator duo with Clarissa Corrêa da Silva. He is succeeded by Tarkan Bagci. The children's show "Knowledge makes Ah!" runs among others in the first and on the KiKA.

Caspers will still be shown on WDR television. Among other things, he appears in formats such as "Quarks" or "The Show with the Mouse", said the broadcaster.

Bagci, on the other hand, has made a name for himself as a comedian, author and podcaster. In the past he worked as a copywriter for Jan Böhmermann's satirical show "Neo Magazin Royale". He is currently part of the team of the late-night show "Studio Schmitt".

Born in Bielefeld in 1995, he said on Instagram about his new role: "I hope that I can give back at least a fraction of what 'Ah!' gave me as a child." If you had told him 20 years ago that he would one day host the show, he probably would have said, "AHHH! HELP! There's a stranger in my room!! MAMA!"

The knowledge magazine "Knowledge makes Ah!" first aired in 2001 - Caspers has since been answering questions like "What's the difference between fruit and vegetables?" or "Why is toilet paper always divided into such short sections?".

The program with its offbeat humor was honored with the German Language Institutions Prize in 2021. In 2009 the website of "Wissen macht Ah!" awarded the Grimme Online Award.

With Caspers' departure, both original moderators of the children's show are no longer there. Shary Reeves left the show in 2017 after more than 15 years. Clarissa Corrêa da Silva took her place and will now continue to lead the format with Bagci.

WDR did not say when Caspers will moderate the show for the last time. But fans can look forward to seeing you again next year under a similar heading. Then he should perform the concert "Jazz macht Ah!" with Corrêa da Silva. present with the WDR Big Band.
