The Fiestas de San Isidro 2023 are already here. Madrid has prepared a special program full of shows, activities and music of all kinds. The Plaza Mayor, the Las Vistillas garden, the San Isidro meadow, Matadero Madrid or the El Retiro park will become settings for the enjoyment of all Madrid residents from May 12 to 15.
The festivities of San Isidro in the capital will officially begin this Wednesday, May 10, at 8:00 p.m. with the reading of the proclamation from the Casa de la Villa, the old City Hall. This year, the proclamation is given by the singer José Ramón Márquez Martínez, Ramoncín.
As reported by the City Council, the festival program will coexist "the musical avant-garde and a look back, nostalgic sounds, rock, pop, electronic, indie, miscegenation, urban proposals and flamenco". Likewise, traditional celebrations such as the pilgrimage in the San Isidro meadow are maintained, in which there will be no shortage of lemonade and smart and silly donuts.
Workshops, games, stories, flamenco, puppets or rock and pop concerts are some of the activities offered by the program of the Fiestas de San Isidro 2023. As a novelty, '21districts' is presented, the festival for families from 21districts. In addition, for the first time, the El Retiro park will host a show of one of the most Spanish stage musical genres, the Zarzuela, which will be performed by the Community of Madrid Orchestra and Choir.
Nor will there be a lack of folklore and Madrid and Castilian dances that evoke the Madrid of the past, with the Madrid Bolera School, better known as Goyesca, or the Baile Vermú castizo in the festival of the San Isidro meadow, where chulapas and chulapos meet to score some chotis. Nor will the parade of Giants and Bigheads be missing.
As usual in San Isidro, Madrid hosts a large number of free concerts these days. Of the poster stand out artists such as Carolina Durante (May 13), Estrella Morente (May 13), Dorian (May 14), Marta Sánchez (May 12), Camela (May 15), Biznaga (May 12), Alice Wonder (May 14), Caliphate 3/4 (May 13), Karavana (May 12) or the town crier Ramoncín (May 11), among others.
It is worth noting the free concerts offered in Matadero by the Primavera Sound festivals, which this year celebrates its first edition in Madrid, and Mad Cool. Artists such as Soto Asa, Cariño, Amore, Dj Coco Cupido, Sports Team, Girli or L.A.S. DJs.

Regarding religious events, organized by the Archdiocese of Madrid and the Royal, Very Illustrious and Primitive Congregation of San Isidro de Naturales de Madrid, it should be remembered that in 2022 and 2203 the Holy Year of San Isidro is celebrated for the IV Centenary of his canonization. For this reason, cultural and religious activities have been prepared in his honor throughout the year, including the public display, for the first time since 1985, of his incorrupt body.
On May 6th the traditional blessing of the water from the fountain and the consecration to the saint take place, while on May 15th it is the turn of the Pilgrimage Mass presided over by the Cardinal of Madrid and, in the afternoon, the procession with the images of San Isidro and Santa María de la Cabeza. In addition, from the 10th to the 14th of May in the Royal Collegiate Church of San Isidro a quinario will be held in honor of the saint.
