At least four people have died in a wildfire in northern California, officials said. According to Siskiyou County Police, search teams found two bodies in homes in the burned area.
The day before, authorities had reported two deaths in a burned-out vehicle near the town of Klamath River. All of the victims were near a major road that cuts right through the fire zone. The State Route has been closed to traffic since the McKinney Fire broke out last Friday.
The forest fire has since spread to an area of over 224 square kilometers. More than 1,300 firefighters battled the blaze on Tuesday. The cause of the fire is not yet known. After weeks of drought, light rain came to help firefighters fight the fire on Monday.
