A powerful earthquake and its aftershocks in Iran’s southern province Hormozgan have resulted in at least five deaths and more than 50 injuries.
At 02:00 GMT on Saturday (21:30 GMT Friday), the earthquake struck near the coast, 100 km (60 miles) from the provincial capital Bandar Abbas.
According to state media, the victims were killed in the magnitude-six earthquake, but two aftershocks proved equally powerful.
Local officials claimed that Sayeh Khosh was the victim of a villager being flattened.
Foad Moradzadeh (governor of Bandar Lengeh), a town close to the epicenter, stated that "no one was hurt in the subsequent two severe earthquakes as people were already out their homes."
Now, rescuers provide emergency housing and restore water and electricity.
Tremors were felt across the United Arab Emirates, and in other Gulf states.
Last month, at least 1000 people were killed in an earthquake that struck Paktika in eastern Afghanistan's mountainous region.
Iran is located on major geological faultlines and has been the victim of several earthquakes. A magnitude 6.6 earthquake in 2003 killed over 30,000 people, and destroyed the ancient city of Bam.
