Almost everyone agreed in their admiration for Vicco von Bülow. In 2023, the legendary humorist, known to the whole world primarily as Loriot, would have been 100 years old. On this occasion he receives a very special appreciation.

The federal government honors Vicco von Bülow alias Loriot. To commemorate the 100th birthday, which the legendary humorist would celebrate in November 2023, a €20 collector's coin is to be released. This was announced by the Federal Ministry of Finance.

The face of the coin was designed by Studio Loriot and the Berlin State Mint. With the "Rosenkavalier" it shows one of Loriot's best-known figures and also contains a colored element - the rose in green and red. The name of the honoree and his year of birth and death are also included. Fans will also find the inscription "Oh what" on the edge of the coin.

The "100th birthday Vicco v. Bülow (Loriot)" coin made of sterling silver weighs 18 grams and has a diameter of 32.5 millimeters and is therefore scheduled for release in September 2023.

It is said that two different embossing qualities are planned. The coin is to be issued in uncirculated quality at a nominal value of 20 euros. Mirror Shine is intended for collectors who can purchase the coin at a price higher than face value. Further details on this will be announced at a later date.

Vicco von Bülow was born in Brandenburg an der Havel in 1923. He died in 2011 at the age of 87. At that point in time, he had an extraordinary career behind him, which he had started as a caricaturist before becoming one of the best-known and most popular humorists in Germany.

His cartoons with protagonists such as Müller-Lüdenscheidt and Dr. Kloebner like his sketches, in which he was often seen alongside Evelyn Hamann, who died in 2007. In the early 1970s, he designed and voiced the cartoon dog Wum for the "Solution Child" campaign, which - later together with the elephant Wendelin - soon became an integral part of television shows such as "Drei mal Neun" or "Der Große Preis".

Loriot continued to enjoy great success with films such as "Ödipussi" (1988) and "Pappa ante portas" (1991). A big fan of classical music, he also directed several operas.

Vicco von Bülow's final resting place is in the Heerstrasse forest cemetery in Berlin's Westend district. It is an honorary grave of the state of Berlin.
