In the already announced sixth installment of the cult horror series "Scream", Neve Campbell (48) will not appear as the main character Sidney Prescott for the first time. For an important message, however, she has once again put herself in danger of being a slasher: in a spot for the US Red Cross, she calls for people not only to look at how liters of blood are spilled in horror films - but in real life also to donate.
"50 percent of Americans enjoy watching bloodshed in horror films. What's really scary is that only 3 percent actually donate it," Campbell said in the short video, in which the characters shown are all in clichéd horror scenarios.
"Going to cheerleading camp next to the abandoned mental hospital? It's like throwing away good blood," explains one of the "victims," hiding under a bed. A typical football jock adds: "There's a blood shortage and we drove to the Dead Lovers Observation Deck. At midnight - on Friday the 13th."
The statement of the creative video call then puts Campbell in a nutshell: "Many people need blood. Whether they are fighting cancer, giving birth - or possibly suffering a stab wound." Instead of putting themselves in danger as unnecessarily as the examples in the clip do, they had better watch out for potentially life-saving blood. And ask yourself a question: "When was the last time you donated blood?
The fact that Campbell will stay away from part six of "Scream" has to do with the fee being too low for her. "As a woman, I've had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my worth," Deadline quoted the actress as saying in a statement in early June. "I felt that the offer I was made did not match the value I brought to the franchise," Campbell said. She did not give exact numbers.
The Canadian announced that the decision was not easy for her. She thanks the fans of the horror series, which revived the slasher film from 1996: "I am forever grateful to you and for what this franchise has given me over the last 25 years".
