Fans of the "Hunger Games", watch out! The prequel "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" will be shot in Duisburg this summer - and is looking for thousands of extras. However, interested parties should not necessarily cling to their own hairstyle.

The "Tribute von Panem" prequel "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" ("The Song of Birds and Snakes") will be shot in the greater Duisburg area from mid-August. Around 3,000 extras are now being sought for the shoot. As the "Spiegel" reports, the Eick agency is looking for people who can work for one to eight days of shooting.

"Invited are people of all ethnicities and backgrounds as well as all sexes and gender identities, aged 8 to 80 years," says Gregor Weber, co-owner of the Eick agency, the magazine. "Since many of these individuals will be cast as residents of Panem, a natural and expressive look is a must."

Those interested should apply online: a data form and two recent photos must be submitted by August 8th. As the "Spiegel" writes, the casting agency has a few other requirements: people with visibly dyed hair, permanent make-up, solarium tan, fixed braces, tunnel earrings, piercings and tattoos on visible parts of the body are unsuitable.

For those brave and willing to invest heavily, applicants should be prepared to have their hair cut if necessary. And for the even braver, some scenes require extras to have their hair shaved.

Anyone who is already familiar with the "Hunger Games" knows that a large part of the population in the state of Pandem is described in both the film and the book as severely malnourished. That's why the casting agency "prioritizes very slim and thin body types," Weber explains to "Spiegel". In addition, many young people who are at least 17 years old but look younger are wanted. "Applications from people with physical disabilities, including those with visible scars or amputations, are very welcome."

The film is based on Suzanne Collins' 2020 book of the same name, set decades before Katniss Everdeen's adventures in The Hunger Games - so Jennifer Lawrence will not appear in it. Instead, the backstory revolves around Coriolanus Snow, an ambitious boy who eventually becomes the tyrannical leader of the dystopian land of Panem. Young Snow will be played by Tom Blyth, as was recently revealed. Snow also becomes Gray's mentor during the "Hunger Games".
