More than 1800 people threw themselves into the river in Dresden on Sunday at the 25th Elbe Swim. They covered around 3.5 kilometers from the Blue Wonder downstream to the Johannstadt ferry garden.

"With exactly 1843 participants, we set a record for the anniversary," said organizer Daniel Baumann. With the glorious summer weather, everything went smoothly. At the finish, everyone received a drink, a sausage and a shower.

The Elbe Swim was held for the first time in 1998. At that time it was intended as a one-time demonstration of the cleanliness of the river. In the meantime, the event has established itself as a fixture in the Dresden calendar.

The Elbe is not bathing water, but swimming in it is not prohibited and is safe for healthy people in normal physical condition.
