G-77 Summit Petro compares Russia with Israel and Ukraine with Palestine and calls for two international peace conferences

Colombian President Gustavo Petro put Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the situation between Israel and Palestine on the same level, while calling for two international peace conferences to find a solution to both conflicts, on Friday night during the Summit of the G-77 China in Havana.

"What is the difference between the war between Russia and Ukraine and that between Israel and Palestine? And why this double standard to assume a great front of human unity in the war between Russia and Ukraine against Russia, and not take sides and sabotage the possibility of a great human front in Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territory, if that is the same?" Petro said.

"I would ask the G-77 and China to also address this issue of war to overcome it. Not because we have to take sides between Russia or Ukraine, but rather we should compare two situations explicitly in today's global debate," insisted Petro, who Throughout his entire political career he has been a defender of the Palestinian cause.

In his years as mayor of Bogotá, Petro twinned the Colombian capital with Ramallah, the Palestinian administrative capital.

This week, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), Riad Malki, visited Bogotá and signed four bilateral cooperation agreements.

"Wouldn't it be time for the G-77 to tell you that the time has come for two peace forums. A peace conference on the war in Ukraine and another on the Palestinian occupation," Petro asked during the Summit that concludes this Saturday in Cuba.
