Health Equality sends a letter to the Autonomous Communities to demand that they put doctors who do not object to abortion in hospitals or that they hire them if there are none

The modification of the law on Sexual and Reproductive Health and the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy contemplates that women are guaranteed the possibility of abortion in public health and as close as possible to their home. For this reason, the Ministry of Equality, through its minister, Irene Montero, has sent a letter to all the Autonomous Communities so that they guarantee that there are doctors who are not conscientious objectors regarding abortion in public hospitals, including if necessary hiring doctors.

Thus, the Ministry intends to guarantee that all regions carry out "urgently" all the measures related to the Surveillance of Voluntary Interruptions of Pregnancy (IVE), with which the new Law on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Voluntary Interruption counts. of pregnancy.

According to Ministry sources, the main advance of this Law is the voluntary interruption of pregnancy in public health and near the women's homes. To this end, the Law "has various tools that all the CCAAs have the obligation to apply to guarantee all the rights of all women."

With this letter to the communities, Equality wants to urge all the CCAAs to take the necessary steps to "guarantee that there are non-objecting doctors in all public hospitals, including, if necessary, the hiring" of new health professionals.

In this sense, the Law proposes the creation of registers of objectors in each CCAA in order to guarantee women's access to their right to abortion, "always respecting the right of doctors to conscientious objection".
