Health. Health. Monkeypox confirmed in 51 cases in France

According to Public Health France (SPF), France had 51 confirmed cases of monkeypox on Friday. Of this total, established at 2 p.m., 37 cases were reported in Ile-de-France, 6 in Occitanie, 4 in Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, 2 in Normandy, 1 in Hauts-de-France and 1 in Center- Loire valley.

On Tuesday, a new update report will be released. On Wednesday, 33 cases were confirmed.

Public Health France states that 43 of 45 confirmed cases on June 2nd - 45 total - were under investigation. One refused and one could not be reached. SPF states that all the cases were men between 22 and 63 years old. Two of the cases were immunocompromised. One was admitted but is now stable. None died. SPF adds that 22 cases were found to have traveled abroad prior to the onset of symptoms. Some of these individuals had been in multiple countries. Most people cannot identify the infected person.

Although Monkeypox can be a mild illness, its spread beyond endemic regions like West Africa is a concern. Brigitte Bourguignon (Minister of Health) stated last week that authorities didn't expect an "outbreak of the disease" and that there were enough vaccines in the country for those with contact cases.

The High Authority for Health was faced with monkeypox cases and recommended that adults be vaccinated, even health professionals, who had been in contact with patients.

France is not the only country that has this disease. On Friday, 21 Americans were diagnosed with the disease, while 77 Canadians were also affected. Quebec's situation is "worrying". There are over 700 cases in total.
