Frankfurt am Main (dpa/lhe) - The offices and apartments of 17 caretakers at 16 schools in Frankfurt have been searched on suspicion of corruption. Those responsible for a cleaning company are said to have bribed them, the public prosecutor said on Thursday on request. The suspects are also accused of accepting benefits. The public prosecutor's office initially did not want to disclose which services were involved. Several media had previously reported on the case.

On Tuesday, the city of Frankfurt announced that the premises of the school building manager had been searched on June 30th. As early as 2021, there were indications of taking advantage. For this reason I had to give notice of termination without notice. In addition, all caretakers have been retrained in corruption prevention.

According to the city of Frankfurt, the extent of the suspected cases seems to be greater than previously known. "All colleagues in the offices and I personally feel betrayed and take the situation very seriously," said Sylvia Weber (SPD), head of the education department. The school administrations concerned have already been informed.

According to the public prosecutor's office, another cleaning service provider is also suspected of corruption. The company was therefore commissioned for numerous properties and schools in the city area. According to the city, it was immediately blocked.
