Hessisch Lichtenau/Kassel (dpa/lhe) - A driver turned in a tunnel on the Autobahn 44 and drove back in the opposite direction to the prescribed direction of travel. People were not harmed by the daring maneuver, as the police in Kassel announced on Wednesday. After the 55-year-old had driven around 1.5 kilometers, she turned around again and left the autobahn at Hessisch Lichtenau (Werra-Meißner district).
According to their own statements, the police tracked down the wrong-way driver through the video recording in the Hirschhagen tunnel, which opened just a few weeks ago. During her interrogation, the woman admitted the mistake she made on Tuesday evening. The reason she gave was "not having recognized that the lane in the tunnel was only passable in one direction".
