Hesse: AfD MP Lichert wants to become vice president of the state parliament

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The AfD parliamentary group is making another attempt to have a member of parliament elected Vice President of the Hessian state parliament from among its ranks. The deputy parliamentary group leader Andreas Lichert will run as a candidate, the opposition group announced on Wednesday in Wiesbaden.

The vote is planned for next Wednesday (June 1st) in Parliament in Wiesbaden. So far, all candidates of the Hessian AfD parliamentary group have not received the required majority.

In addition to the president of the state parliament, five vice-presidents from the parliamentary groups of the CDU, Greens, SPD, FDP and Left are currently chairing the state parliament sessions. The sixth deputy post has been vacant since the constituent session of the state parliament.
