Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - Frankfurt's Mayor Peter Feldmann has rejected allegations that he tried to prevent the car parade after Eintracht's Europa League victory. This has no basis, Feldmann explained on Tuesday through his spokesman. Instead, he was not involved at all in the concrete planning for the reception. Eintracht Frankfurt board spokesman Axel Hellmann had publicly stated at the club's general meeting on Monday evening that the SPD politician had tried to prevent the team's car parade after the triumph "because he wasn't invited to it himself".
Feldmann explained on Tuesday that the security authorities had concerns about the parade. According to the minutes of the meeting, it was pointed out that Eintracht had to register and secure this as an event, which Hellmann rejected. The regulatory office, which reports solely to the regulatory department, initially informed the Bundesliga soccer club that the convoy could not take place. "In the end, however, a mutually acceptable solution was found in confidential talks." At the time, Feldmann even expressly welcomed the fact that the parade was taking place, as it was very important to him personally "as a die-hard Eintracht fan".
In Frankfurt, the major parties, including the SPD, to which Feldmann belongs, are campaigning in a joint campaign for an end to the Feldmann era. The mayor meanwhile announced that he wanted to remain in office until 2024 if the citizens were to vote for his stay on November 6th.
