Offenbach / Main (dpa / lhe) - There were fires in several places in a forest in Heusenstamm in southern Hesse (Offenbach district). As the police announced on Monday, the fire brigade had to fight six fire sites there at the same time on Sunday afternoon. The first fire was reported in the afternoon. According to the police, an area of about 45 square meters was affected. A short time later, further fires were reported in the forest area.
The criminal police are now investigating suspected arson and are calling on witnesses to report observations of suspicious people in the areas. The damage from the fires was not quantified.
According to the police, the fire brigade had to extinguish several fire sites in nearby Obertshausen just two weeks ago. A suspect has since been arrested in the case. He is accused of setting fires in a forest and in an emergency bay on Autobahn 3.
