Hesse: Al-Wazir: 25 fully electric citizen buses throughout Hesse

Marburg (dpa/lhe) - Citizens' buses with volunteer drivers are intended to supplement local public transport on routes that cannot be served economically. In the meantime, 25 fully electric citizen buses are on the road throughout Hesse, explained Hesse's Transport Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) on Saturday at the Citizen Bus Day in Marburg. The vehicles improved mobility in rural areas while protecting the climate and the environment.

At the same time, the citizens' buses are "a vehicle for promoting civic commitment, local cohesion and improving the mobility offer," said the minister. Older people in particular could use it to secure their basic needs and continue to be mobile.

The state financed the buses with 1.1 million euros. Both the vehicles and the necessary charging points have been step by step in the past few months to the 25 corresponding initiatives in Flieden, Ebsdorfergrund, Gedern, Langgöns, Bad Karlshafen, Grebenau, Waldeck, Ludwigsau, Schmitten, Bad Zwesten, Schwarzenborn, Ulrichstein, Greifenstein, Heuchelheim, Wesertal , Reiskirchen, Leun, Sinntal, Wächtersbach, Büdingen, Bad Emstal, Burghaun, Niddatal, Usingen and Siegbach.
