Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - In purely mathematical terms, the five largest cider presses in the state produced more than four liters of "Stöffche" per Hesse in 2021. As reported by the State Statistical Office on Thursday for World Cider Day on Friday (June 3), the total amount of cider was 27.5 million liters. That was around 350,000 liters more than the average for the past ten years. The value of the cider produced in 2021 was 26.8 million euros.

At least in the south of the federal state, cider is considered the national drink, affectionately also called "Stöffche". Around 6.3 million people live in Hesse.
