Hesse: Association warns of problems with veterinary care

Friedrichsdorf (dpa / lhe) - The Hessian farmers' association has sharply criticized the drastically increased costs for visits to the veterinarian. The renewed significant increase in fees is unacceptable and will mean that some farmers can hardly afford veterinary care, the Association of the German Press Agency said on Wednesday in Friedrichsdorf.

Due to the current cost explosions in agriculture, livestock farmers in particular have come under additional pressure due to the sharp rise in feed, energy and fuel costs. Adequate veterinary care is essential and must be guaranteed at all times, the farmers' association warned.

With the introduction of the new fee rates, increases of up to 60 percent would come into force compared to the old fees. Against this background, it becomes clear that stock management contracts between pet owners and veterinarians are immensely important. With these contracts, veterinarians could charge rates that deviate from the fee schedule. This is an efficient and not rigidly bureaucratic solution in the right direction, which is becoming more and more important, the association explained.
