Hesse: attack on TU Darmstadt: woman should stay in psychiatry

Darmstadt (dpa/lhe) - Almost a year after the poison attack at the Technical University (TU) Darmstadt, the public prosecutor's office has applied for the opening of security proceedings against the suspect at the regional court. As prosecutor Ansgar Martinsohn confirmed on Sunday, the authority assumes that the student from Mainz is incapable of being guilty. The "Frankfurter Rundschau" had previously reported.

The investigators assume that the 32-year-old German poisoned drinks in a TU building on August 23 last year. Seven people were injured, one of them was in mortal danger. Specialists discovered a toxic substance in milk cartons and water containers. However, the investigators did not say until the end which substance was involved, as it was about the knowledge of the perpetrators.

The suspect was arrested in March this year and committed to a psychiatric hospital. According to the public prosecutor, the woman has been enrolled as a material science student since the winter semester of 2017. The authorities accuse her of attempted murder while incapacitated.
