Kassel (dpa/lhe) - A 28-year-old man fled from the police in Kassel over several roofs and threatened and arrested a man in his apartment. The 28-year-old broke into an apartment building on Friday night before being chased over the roofs, the police said on Friday. At the end of his escape, the man fell from a height of about four meters when he tried to jump from a balcony onto a lantern. In doing so, he sustained serious injuries.
According to the information, a resident of an apartment building had initially reported via the emergency call that an unknown person had been in the hallway and was climbing through a hatch with a ladder onto the roof of the six-storey building. When the police spoke to the 28-year-old on site, he fled over the neighboring roofs. He almost fell off the roof. He also threw several objects, including a parasol, in the direction of the police officers who were pursuing him.
Finally, he broke open a roof hatch on another house and got into the building. There he rang the doorbell and got into the apartment when the resident opened the door a little. The 28-year-old is said to have threatened the resident with a small knife from his kitchen and held him in the apartment for about half an hour. After talking to the intruder, the resident was finally able to leave the apartment.
The 28-year-old then climbed over the balcony of the apartment onto the balconies below and tried to break into other apartments. Meanwhile, the fire brigade began to build a safety cushion under the balconies. Finally, the 28-year-old tried to jump onto a ladder and was seriously injured in the fall.
After an initial questioning by the police, his motives are unclear. The investigators have no indications of a mental illness or the influence of drugs or alcohol, as a police spokesman said. The 28-year-old is now being investigated for deprivation of liberty and threats.
