Hesse: Cause of speeding accident: three and a half years in prison

Frankenthal (dpa/lhe) - A young man races his sports car on a country road, gets into the oncoming lane in a right-hand bend and causes an accident with three dead - the Frankenthal district court sentenced him to a prison sentence of 3 years and 6 months on Friday sentenced. The 2nd Large Criminal Chamber saw the criminal offense of negligent homicide in three cases and intentional endangerment of road traffic as given. The public prosecutor had asked for four years and six months for the man from Biblis in southern Hesse. The defense, however, had proposed a suspended sentence at the discretion of the court. Appeals against the judgment can still be lodged.

When the person who caused the accident in his luxury sedan collided with an oncoming small car in September 2020, the driver, her 15-month-old son and a passenger died at the scene of the accident near Weisenheim am Berg. First responders discovered a crying baby in the wreckage, the surviving one-month-old daughter of the killed driver. The 29-year-old and his passenger were almost uninjured in the collision on the country road in the district of Bad Dürkheim.
