Hesse: Chief Public Prosecutor charged with suspected corruption

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - A former senior public prosecutor at the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office has been charged with suspected corruption. The 55-year-old is accused of bribery in 101 cases, serious breach of trust in 55 cases and tax evasion in 9 cases, as the Frankfurt public prosecutor announced on Thursday.

Among other things, the chief public prosecutor is said to have issued expert opinions for the judiciary and received part of the money from the company he had commissioned. Between August 2015 and July 2020, a sum of around 280,000 euros is said to have flowed to the officials. The case had attracted attention far beyond Frankfurt because the accused himself was investigating white-collar crime and billing fraud in his function at the Attorney General's Office. The investigations were launched in 2019.

At the same time, the public prosecutor brought charges of bribery in 82 cases against a 56-year-old entrepreneur from the Hochtaunus district, who is said to be friends with the judicial officer and whose company was commissioned. The man is also accused of four cases of subsidy fraud in connection with Corona economic aid.
