Fulda (dpa/lhe) - The pop musician Chris de Burgh (73, "The Lady in Red") will follow the premiere of the musical "Robin Hood" in Fulda with parts of his family. The preliminary performances went well and now he is looking forward to the premiere - also because his two sons Hubert and Michael would come to Fulda, the artist said on Thursday in the cathedral city. His wife is already there. The musician from Ireland composed eight songs for the musical, which premieres on Friday at the Schlosstheater in Fulda.
Chris de Burgh has known Fulda since the 1980s. He immediately fell in love with the city, which he says is very cute. The producers of the musical approached him about the music, although he had never composed for a musical. That was completely different for him than his 340 songs. There is also a familial connection to the material: one of de Burgh's ancestors, Hubert de Burgh, was chief legal officer to King John of the West in the 13th century. And this also occurs in the musical "Robin Hood". All this together convinced him to take part in the musical, said the musician. "And also after 27 albums I was looking for new challenges".
177 performances of the musical "Robin Hood" are planned until October. Next year the play will also be performed in Hanau, Munich and Linz (Austria). From July, Chris de Burgh will be on a solo tour all over Germany: 19 concerts, for which he has to travel around 4250 kilometers. "Oh, that's nothing," he said: "I've already done a tour of 15,000 kilometers in six weeks."
In October Chris de Burgh starts another tour with his band. There he will play the songs from his current CD "The Legend of Robin Hood" with songs from the musical "Robin Hood".
