Hesse: City of Kelkheim declares a drinking water emergency

Kelkheim (dpa/lhe) - The city of Kelkheim declared a drinking water emergency on Wednesday with immediate effect. The reason is an acute shortage of drinking water in the entire city area, which endangers the public water supply. The city council in the Hessian Main-Taunus district announced this on Wednesday. Calls to save water that have already been made in the past few weeks have therefore not had the desired success.

With the state of emergency, the hazard prevention ordinance on the restriction of water consumption will also be proclaimed for the first time, the magistrate said. This goes hand in hand with various prohibitions, such as not wasting the water from public drinking water pipes, storing it, sprinkling it on courtyards or green spaces, or even hosing down the car with it. In addition, blocking times for drinking water preparation could also be set, it said.
